How to Stay Fit This Holiday Season

Stay fit this holiday season! As the Christmas decorations go up, our schedules get busier, and workouts, healthy eating and self-care get put on the back burner. Yes, the holidays are supposed to be about having fun, eating great food and spending time with family, but that doesn’t mean you have to comprise your health or waistline!

No one wants to be shopping for jeans in bigger sizes in January (although the sales are irresistible!), so here are some of my favorite tips to make it through the holidays:

1) Schedule it out: at the beginning of your week, look at your calendar and take in a bird’s eye view of what you have going on. Now go ahead and schedule in all of your workouts for the week. Treat these scheduled workouts like the most important meeting on your calendar. This way, this time is no longer available and you are less likely to skip out.

2) Bundle up & keep moving: after dinner most of us just want to sit around and veg. Instead, bundle up and take the family out for a walk. You will be surprised how great it feels and how much fun a family walk can be after laughing and bonding at the dinner table. Who knows, maybe it will even become a family tradition!

3) Maintain: let’s be honest, the holidays are no time to start setting weight loss goals. You will be much easier on yourself and have more fun if you make a plan to maintain your current weight this month. This way, you are less likely to feel guilty after you eat and are more likely stick to a healthy holiday plan after all.
