Would you laugh at me if I said everywhere?! My two quick thoughts on where to find travel influencers both originate online.
- Google it. It’s just that simple. You found this blog didn’t you, I’m guessing via the google?
- Search on Instagram as a start. You can either pick a destination and then look at who tags them in photos, a bit of reverse engineering. You can look at that same social media profile to see who that destination or place follows and who follows them. Once you identify a handful of travel influencers, you can go down many rabbit holes, looking through their communities to find more. And don’t forget about hashtags!
How do I become a travel influencer?
I love that you’ve got being a travel influencer on your vision board and are taking steps to make it happen. Good for you! Honestly, it’s A LOT of work. Becoming a travel influencer or any successful content creator for that matter isn’t for the faint of heart. Imagine launching any other business, be it a brick and mortar or one online and you’re doing the same thing.
You must figure out your niche of travel, what’s your brand and then set about to establish who you are and how you show up for others. What value do you provide? You’ll hear me talk about this a lot. Don’t overlook it. You can’t just be a travel influencer.

Do travel influencers travel for free?
Some of them do travel for free as they’re partners of airlines, destinations and places. This means they are hosted. Their expenses are covered and they receive money for the content they create. To become a successful travel content creator the key is consistency. You must continually show up to your business, aka creating content. You have to do it when you think no one is watching or listening and it’s your mom and aunt reading your newsletter.

How do you monetize your love for travel?
This is a great question. It’s a bit hard to answer how to monetize your love for travel here (as it’s no different than building any business) but I’ll do my best to get you started. I recommend you figure out your niche of travel ie how are you going to deliver value to people? Will it be solo female travel? Will it be travel on $100/day? Couples travel? From there, you can answer how you can deliver value as in, what will people continually return to your website and social media for? What information are they seeking that you’re providing?
From here you can create digital products, become an affiliate partner, work with destinations and places to create content for them in exchange for money, write high trafficked blog posts and place ads on your website. Just to name a few ideas of how to monetize your love for travel.
